Rinse your cutter with warm water after use and allow to air dry completely before storing. Avoid acetone, harsh solvents, or prolonged heat exposure as these can affect the material over time. Store flat or upright in a dry place away from direct sunlight.

About This Design

Where tradition meets the studio

Pervane means moth, the creature that circles a flame in Ottoman Sufi poetry as a symbol of devotion and longing. This hatayi polymer clay cutter takes a teardrop outer silhouette and builds a full vertical composition inside: a crown of three small rounded forms at the top, a pair of curved wing and scroll forms with fine line detail through the body, a central pointed oval at the mid section, and a spread fan palmet with dense radiating lines at the base. Pairs beautifully with Elmas Penç as a compact Ottoman accent piece.

The moth and flame motif runs through centuries of Ottoman Divan poetry, particularly in the work of poets writing in the classical Persian-influenced tradition, where the pervane represented the soul drawn irresistibly toward divine light. The layered botanical forms within this piece carry that same sense of movement and aspiration upward through the composition.
